Wow, I am definitely going to stay in Florence for a while. I just signed up for a 6 week Italian lanuage program which starts on October 16. It was recommended to me by an American who works at my hostel, he took it a while ago and he became fluent. 6 week course+ accomidation for only $1400!
ALSO I just saw this flier for a Tool concert here in November. I practically have a religious experience every time I listen to them, and I've never seen them live! I have to go.

that is awesome that you are going to learn Italian. You are definetly doing a great job making Italy sound like a place that I would love to go!
have fun!
Yup. What Jasmine said.
...6 weeks? Starting Oct 16? That mneans you'll be finished around... Thanksgiving? And *then* heading to England?? Isn't that doing things in reverse?
December is a terrible time to visit England, I would have thought you'd want to do England now, then head South for the Winter(?)
Remember England has had more of an impact on the shaping of you and your sister than any country other than the US. And not just in generic literary terms (the language we speak, the thinking of geniuses from Shakespeare to C.S. Lewis, from John Locke to David Hume... these people have had more indirect influence on your thinking and mine than we may realize).
But I mean on a personal level, too... Your mother comes from pure English stock. (What made her all the more attractive to me) And of course Southern England (London - Brighton) is where I really started to grow up, in the '70s. It is where I made my major life /philosophy commitments by which I still live. England is your true ancestral home (with no apologies to the Irish members of our extended family) :)
My point... England is too important in your life to leave for a week or so in December. Go there now or in late Spring, or both. And have fun (...just watch out for the street gangs and the soccer hooligans) (oops) :)
